Death comes three years after his son and granddaughter were killed in a helicopter crash
Joe Bryant, the father of late NBA legend Kobe Bryant, has died at the age of 69. The former NBA player and coach died Wednesday, January 25, 2023, at his home in Philadelphia, according to multiple reports.
Bryant played eight seasons in the NBA, from 1975 to 1983, with the Philadelphia 76ers, San Diego Clippers and Houston Rockets. He was a two-time All-Star and averaged 8.7 points per game.
After his playing career, Bryant became a coach in the WNBA, where he led the Los Angeles Sparks to two championships in 2001 and 2002. He was also an assistant coach with the Philadelphia 76ers and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Bryant's death comes three years after his son, Kobe, and granddaughter, Gianna, were killed in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.
